August 2017

“Now, let us all take a deep breath and forge on into the future, knitting at the ready.”

                                                                                                                               Elizabeth Zimmerman

Summer is flying by, the kiddo’s are starting back to school, and Birdie and I are gearing up for our Fall Fiber Festivals!

  • On September 16 & 17, we will be parked again at A Wool Gathering at Young’s Dairy in Yellow Springs, Ohio. New yarns and “Knitcellaneous” is starting to trickle in and Birdie will be bulging at the seams!

  • The Athens Area Fiber Faire is scheduled for September 30 and October 1. This date was changed, so if you picked up a Yarnbyrds schedule earlier this year, make note. The leaves should be changing, which will create a great autumn road trip!

  • We will also be set up at the Autumn Fiber Festival in Ashland, Ohio on October 14. This is an awesome one-day event, so don’t miss it!

“The Nest” is open and hosted its first event this past July. It was a huge success! Jeanne Stevenson of Destination yarn was here for two, 1-day dye workshops. It was the bomb! It was so successful that we are dyeing up another one with a twist, so stay tuned!

What is “The Nest”? It is a converted garage space that comfortably seats 25 – 30 people…. (Probably more, but we’ve not tested it yet!), and is located on my personal property of eight acres near Easton Town Center. It is not a brick and mortar shop. It is a chic gathering space for scheduled evenings of knitting and crochet, workshops, a few occasional classes and special events.

  • Speaking of special events, a KAL and Pop-Up Shop is scheduled for September 23 from 10:00 – 4:00, with Margaret Craig, knit designer of Heidi & Lana. I had the pleasure of meeting Margaret earlier this year at TNNA and fell head-over-heels for her charming, simplistic, yet classy kits. Margaret will kick us off with a KAL of any of her designs and will also demonstrate how to use the Heidi & Lana tassel maker, which is included in her Conversation shawl kit, how to seam the Passage Poncho and how to start the garter tab of the Reflection shawl.

  • On October 28, Keri Fosbrink, indie dyer of Youghiogheny Yarns, will be in The Nest to teach the afterthought heel technique. You can pick up one of Keri’s Mon Sock Heels & Toes sets from the truck or that day from her Pop-Up Shop. There is homework for this class and you must know how to work in the round. See Classes and Workshops for more details. There are three, 2-hour classes to choose from.

  • Also beginning Tuesday, September 26, and every other Tuesday from 6:00 – 9:00, The Nest will be hosting an Open Stitch. We will refer to it as “Knititate”…meditate, knititate, get it? Once a month, beginning on Wednesday, September 27 will be “Hookers Only” night. Hooks only, no needles will be allowed! Check the calendar tab for dates.

Mark your calendars so as not to miss out on any of the upcoming fiber festivals and be sure to check the calendar tab often for what may be happening in The Nest!

Knit on!
