My First Sweater - Flax by Tin Can Knits
Ready to tackle your first knit garment? Make the Flax Sweater with Rachael! This long sleeve, top down raglan will introduce you to the basics of sweater construction.
This is an advanced beginner to intermediate level knitting class. Students must already know how to knit and purl, should feel comfortable working on their own, and fixing simple mistakes. This is a multi-week class with a lot of homework between classes.
Please note that gauge swatching will be done prior to class, but your instructor will send an email ahead of time to explain this process.
Class outline:
- Week one (11/10) - Confirm sizing and gauge swatches, cast on, complete Neck Ribbing and Neckline Increase Round. Homework: Make sure Neckline Increase Round is complete before week two.
- Week two (11/17) - Begin Yoke section. Homework: Complete raglan yoke before week three. Students will have two weeks to work on this portion of their sweater.
- Week three (12/1) - Begin Short Row Shaping. Homework: Finish Short Row Shaping before week four.
- Week four (12/8) - Separate Body and Sleeves. Homework: Complete body and ribbing by week five. Note: If you're unable to complete this section in time, that's okay. We can put your stitches on hold and move on.
- Week five (12/15) - Begin sleeves by using the Magic Loop technique (but if you are already loyal to DPNs, feel free to use them). Homework: Continue working on sweater sleeves.
- Week six (12/29 - optional) - What we do in this last class is your choice. We can pick up our other sleeve, answer any questions, or just knit together.
Dates: Tuesday, 11/10, 11/17, 12/1, 12/8, 12/15, and 12/29 (optional), 6-8pm
